EL SANTO (1917-1984) The Man in Silver Mask

 

Mexican Luchador, folk hero and actor, the greatest Lucha Libre (wrestling) legend and kitsch films, a symbol of justice. Filmed more than 53 movies, also featured in comic books. 

He was buried in his silver mask in one of the biggest funerals in Mexico. El Santo’s low-budget B-movies featured the superhero fighting supernatural creatures, evil scientists, zombies and vampires, merciless criminals or secret agents. His best-known movie outside of Mexico is also considered one of his best, 1962’s “Santo contra las mujeres vampiro” (Santo vs. The Vampire Women). In 1968, Santo also filmed two versions of the same movie: “El vampiro y el Sexo” (The Vampire and the Sex) in its uncensored version and the (censored) family version “Santo en el Tesoro de Drácula” (Santo and Dracula’s treasure). The uncensored version, wasn’t shown to the public until 2011 after being discovered.
